Wilderness, Garden Route

Unused railway track at Wilderness nearby The Lakes. This track looks like it snakes through valleys and over mountains. I can only imagine the beautiful train-ride they must've had "back in the days" when it was still in use... Unspoiled beauty.

I love, I love.....

Places - The Garden Route

We recently had a short, winter school holiday break on the Garden Route. A friend of ours has a lovely little house in Wilderness, which is perfectly situated to explore the surrounding areas.

Take a drive up the coast through Sedgefield towards Knysna (famous for its' oysters) and further along to Plettenberg Bay (jam-packed over the summer holidays). Drive inland and you get to George and of course Oudtshoorn, famous for ostriches and the Cango Caves.

We were lucky to have had the most beautiful weather, especially for that time of the year. Blue, sunny skies and warm days and mild evenings...

It was a typical, lazy winter holiday with lots of eating, walking, reading and sleeping.... hmmm....

Namakwaland flowers

I cannot resist but to share more photographs of the beautiful Namakwaland flowers with everyone!

Wupperthal

Next to the Biedouw Valley with its' floral beauty, lies Wupperthal. It is an attractive little oasis in the very heart of the rugged wilderness of the Cedarberg and the Tatra Mountains. The village is famous for its little shoe factory producing the famous hand-made "Veld Skoene". Access from Clanwilliam via the Pakhuis Pass. The road is quite rough, but if you drive slowly it's accessible with a normal car. Let's face it; IT'S WORTH IT!

Spring time

Every year in August we experience the beauty of the Namakwaland Wild Flowers. Just after good rains and warm sunny days, the wildflowers emerge in their colorful glory. This year we managed to see it in the Clanwilliam area of Biedouw Valley. Famous for it's spectacular flowers and also for its' Rooibos Tea.

I'm back

Been away for a while but now I'm back and determined to post every day... Fingers crossed!

These are photo's of a favorite place of ours in the beautiful Karoo, called Hartland Farm. It's in the middle of a beautiful valley, positioned "just so" to be able to enjoy the most breathtaking sunrises and sunsets from the "stoep".
