Chocolates, again!

Okay, now who doesn't like a good chocolate? The Captain and I visited a chocolate supplier the other day and spoiled ourselves with 5kg's of good quality Belgian chocolate known as Callebaut

The Captain wasted no time and made something delicious with this chocolate... How terribly spoiled were we with "Ferrero Rocher"-like chocolates, which is absolutely to die for!! There's still a couple left, but it won't last much longer...hmmm.

You can find the recipe to make your own chocolates here. Enjoy!

Happy day!

Baking

I love summertime for the abundance of fresh fruit available to us.  My latest "batch" from the kitchen is a fresh plum tart...

Cheetah doesn't like baked fruit with anything, and he doesn't yet know what he's missing... hmmmm.

Happy day!

a good place to gather

a good place to gather is the blog by Jessica who is the former chef of Nook Eatery, which she co-owned and ran with her husband Luke. We got to know them at Nook and were always impressed by this couple's passion for quality, delicious food and eye for detail. I was very happy to see them recently at Kamersvol Geskenke and to have the pleasure of sinking my teeth into one of their home-made, buttery, mouth-watering delicious croissants again. The Captain always insisted that the croissants are the best he's ever had and being a Frenchman, it is a great compliment to the chef; and a well-deserved one too.

If you never had the pleasure of eating at Nook, well.... too bad. We're secretly hoping they might consider moving back to our part of the "woods".... hehe. Until they do (yeah, I wish!!) I will continue to collect the fabulous recipes she shares with us on a good place to gather. I think you will enjoy it too!

Happy day!

One of our favourite indulgences is a visit to Cassis in Cape Town.  There you will find none of those cakes decorated in bright, unnatural coloured icing/fondant that looks too fake to eat.  The pastries and tarts are simple,  fresh, delicious and too good to resist. This is why....

If any of you visit our beautiful Mother City one day, CASSIS is one stop you HAVE to make; it is even worth it for us to drive 60km's just for this taste experience. Yummmm!

Happy day!

French meringue

Having been inspired by the decor8 blog post about French meringue here, I decided to make some of my own. The Captain likes to make desserts and pastries and we have forever a container full of egg whites in the refrigerator. This was my chance to make lovely little sweet treats like the ones in the picture above (borrowed from the decor8 blog)

Deliciousness, hmm.....

Have a Happy Day!!
