I like it a lot

I can't believe it's the 4th of the month already! We've been busy with the kitchen and then had a busy weekend with Cheetah playing indoor hockey and then we were visiting friends on Sunday for a big get-together. We were quite happy that yesterday turned out to be a bit cooler than the sweltering heat we've had this last week. (Phew!)

Here are some images that inspired me over the last few days. I'm beginning to like the idea of white, grey and natural wood more and more; especially now the kitchen is (almost) done and the lighter tones with the bamboo look so divine! (I'll share with you later in the week)

These rooms are absolutely gorgeous and I am considering painting a few pieces of our furniture all white. I hope you get some inspiration from these too!

Have a happy week!

Door make-over

I picked up this old door from a junk yard (my favourite place to find "treasures") for about 20.00 ZAR and knew exactly what I wanted to do with it.

I removed the handles and hinges and gave it a good sanding. The solid panel at the bottom got three coats of chalkboard paint  and at the same time I brushed a few strokes of the same paint all around for special effect later.

Masking tape and newspaper blocked off the panels for the frame to be painted.

Voilà! What do you think?

I'm not quite sure if I want to leave the glass panel as is, or give it a coat of magnetic paint in a lovely pastel shade. I love all of these colours above, but will I find something similar in magnetic? I'll keep you posted!

Happy day!

Elsbeth Eksteen @ Kamersvol Geskenke

Being the image/design junkie that I am, I headed off to Kamersvol Geskenke for a bit of eye candy and some wonderful photo opportunities. I was not disappointed.

One of the stalls that grabbed my attention, was that of Elsbeth Eksteen. Her quirky, fun paintings are just sooo divine, they can only make you smile. Personally I adore the friend(ly) fox.....  You can follow her blog here, on Facebook here, Etsy shop here and her webpage here.

Some more images borrowed from her site:

This is the stuff that little (and big) girls' dreams are made of. Enjoy!

A "barrow" full of colour

Dare I? Again? Hmmm, okay just this once more, because it's too pretty not to share. The vygies I planted in  my rusty old wheel-barrow had finally made their appearance in full glory!

On a cloudy, wet and cold day they look like this...

And then, when the sun is out and it is lovely and warm, they look like this...

Isn't it just lovely? It's like they celebrate the coming summer with us....(((((smile)))))

Shoe makeover

I saw some fabulous shoe makeovers done by Kelli of Kellism and decided to try this myself. It's a fantastic craft for anyone, especially for kids on those cold, wet, winter days when they have absolutely "nothing to do".

This is one of Kelli's designs:

from her Facebook page, here

And here are one of my own creations:

I had so much fun making these that this will be on my Christmas gift list for some people. All you need is a pair of white canvas shoes, fabric or acrylic paint and a bit of patience. For the rest, just go wild with your designs and enjoy!

Bendy cake toppers

A while ago I wrote about a post I read on-line (here) for making bendy, bunting cake toppers.  Well, it was The Captain's birthday recently and I wanted to make him a special cake, without going overboard. I tried out the bendy bunting, and it looked quite fabulous in the end.

He absolutely loved it  and the cake (chocolate-buttermilk) was divine too!

Crochet bunting

So, I've been busy yet again with a bit of crochet and this is the result; crochet bunting. These are perfect for indoors and outdoors and I'm planning to make one with bigger "flags" to string up in our trees, as soon as the weather warms up a bit.

I'm also thinking of a few in more muted colours, for kid's rooms. As soon as I have a couple ready, I'll post some photo's.

Happy day!

Weddings - bouquets

My friend is getting married in March and we're starting to get down to planning the whole event. There are so many lovely ideas "out there" that I decided to share some of it with you...

The hardest part is to decide which one of these ideas to follow; but we're having loads of fun doing the research. I will post something about weddings from time to time until the big day; just to share with you....

Lovely grey

Who would ever have thought..... Looking at some images online, I saw so many grey rooms that I had to save some of those images. I'd never have thought that grey could work so well. One would associate it with the grey dreariness of a cold winters' day, no? Well, surprise, surprise!! Look at the freshness that I uncovered and feast your eyes!!

i LOVE the wall and floor finish in these pictures. We're renovating our living and dining rooms in the future and I think this is what I want!!   (from here)

What a fabulous idea for a fireplace! Look at those light-shades and I loooove the bench-y thingy on the side.

And last but not least, the stunning grey mosaic on this kitchen wall!!

Yep, I think I just discovered another favourite colour (well, no quite as favourite as turquoise/aquamarine, but not far behind...) Grey could just be the new white for me...
