Decorex continues

One of my favourites was the exhibit of Stefan Frylick of Space for Life
I love this décor style - retro, funky, yet timeless

Edge Interiors was responsible for this exhibit, with exceptional results;
I loved it - modern and fabulous!

Lightbulbs and such

To continue along the same theme of yesterday's post, I'd like to share with you the desk lamp The Captain made recently with a Squirrel Cage bulb and red cord purchased from Hoi P'loy.

Hoi P'loy is a company based in Cape Town run by owners Ploy Phiromnam and Guy van der Walt. They hold exclusive distribution rights for a range of vintage bulbs in South Africa and stock fabric covered cable cords in a  variety of colours.

I love the elegance and simplicity of these light bulbs and I go "gaga" over the coloured cords (sigh!).
Here's a sneek peak at some of the light bulbs they have in their range.

How awesome are these?

DIY lampshades

With "designer" light-bulbs all the rage now, I would think a bespoke lampshade covered in your favourite fabric would be a fabulous addition to any room in your home.

Click here to read the tutorial by decor8 on how revamp a shade for your own designer lampshade

You can buy an uncovered lampshade like the one above from Lampshade Studio in Somerset West (ZA) or up-cycle one of your old shades. I like to visit thrift shops and junk yards and I'm certain one can find something special there too.

What I like about these is that it is simple and inexpensive.  If you want to change the cover of the shade again, all you need to do is peel off the old fabric and start with a fresh idea.

For the designer light bulbs the possibilities are infinite. Try here on the 1000Bulbs(dot)com website, if you like the antique look or here on Plumen, for something more modern.

Love Milo

Beautiful ceramics, wooden tableware, fabric and lighting from South African designer Nicki Ellis who calls her brand Love Milo. With stockists of her work in Europe, UK, Australia, Dubai and of course South Africa, you won't miss out on this opportunity to shop for the beautiful, functional items she creates, drawing her inspiration from nature and black/white photography.  She's featured in Elle Decoration, Sarie, Garden and Home, Top Billing to name just a few local magazines.

The following four images were borrowed from her Facebook photo album:

Now this is what I call functional art, no? I adore it! Please visit her website here and her Facebook page here, to see more of her beautiful work. My personal favourites are the wooden items, featured here and here and linked here.

Bodie and Fou Autumn

Inspiration from one of my favourite on-line boutiques and interior shops BODIE and FOU whom I wrote about here, a while ago.... I'm totally addicted to their sites and pages and can spend hours reading and getting my dose of eye-candy. Check it out for yourself...... With Christmas shopping upon us, I can easily break the bank at their shop... Hehehe. What about you?

Liesel Trautman ceramics

There is absolutely nothing I love more than beautiful design. When I saw Liesel Trautman's work at Kamersvol Geskenke this last Friday, it was love at first sight. It immediately grabbed my attention with it's freshness and simple designs. Like me, she's an image junkie and draws inspiration from Victorian and Chinese design. My personal favourite is her take on the kewpie doll (something I remember from when I was a little girl).  They are a definite "must have" and I will put that on my list for Santa! (haha!)

Visit her shop on 154 Lower Main Road, Observatory, Cape Town or her website, here.

Leipzig

The one thing I love about exhibitions like Kamersvol Geskenke (translate: Rooms Filled with Gifts) is that it allows me to discover fabulous local talent. LEIPZIG is practically my neighbour and I only discover them now. One of the best kept floral secrets it seems... They are a team of six very creative and talented young ladies, devoting themselves passionately to wedding and function design. Read there blog here or visit their website here

Elsbeth Eksteen @ Kamersvol Geskenke

Being the image/design junkie that I am, I headed off to Kamersvol Geskenke for a bit of eye candy and some wonderful photo opportunities. I was not disappointed.

One of the stalls that grabbed my attention, was that of Elsbeth Eksteen. Her quirky, fun paintings are just sooo divine, they can only make you smile. Personally I adore the friend(ly) fox.....  You can follow her blog here, on Facebook here, Etsy shop here and her webpage here.

This is the stuff that little (and big) girls' dreams are made of. Enjoy!

Green Grass Design

I paged through a magazine at the doctor's the other day and saw some beautiful design items that gave me that typical kind of...... "I Want That!" feeling. With my little lime-coloured moleskin notebook always handy, I jotted down some names and URL's..

Green Grass Design is a proudly South African venture involved in graphic design, laser cutting and engraving, like the Nando's Toolkit Boxes ,  snowflakes, intricate cutting for wedding stationery and much more.

All these items are very reasonably priced, especially if you consider the amount of time and effort that goes into creating it.

Happy day!!
